COME OUT OF THE CLUTTER OF THE COMMON

If you are like me, you have spent a good portion of your adolescence, teens, and early adulthood trying to fit in. Trying to be one of the “cool kids” or run with the “in crowd”, or at least not be considered “weird”, lol. Taking all those extra precautions to have fashionable attire, the perfect hairstyle, be a part of the right clubs, and talk the slang of the day. Then things really got crazy when being one of the “cool kids” moved to a digital platform, you guessed it, social media. I mean dang, now I have to convince hundreds of thousands of people to like and follow me online to be with the “in crowd”?

I’ll admit, I was pulled into the digital world of popularity only to find myself frustrated and borderline depressed trying so hard to be like everyone else.

When we really think about it, what an insult to Almighty God! To think our worth is defined by trying to fit in. He didn’t create us to fit in, He created us to stand out! Stand out with an eclectic style, bright bold colors, and big hair.

You are beloved just the way God intended you to be. Really? How lackluster and monotonous would the world be if we were all the same? What if we all thought the same, walked the same and looked the same. I cringe at the thought of missing out on the uniqueness that God gave each of us.

Don’t get me wrong I get that stepping out and being willing to stand alone (for a short while) can be scary but think about the freedom you’ll create for your creativity to flourish!

THREE WAYS TO COME OUT OF THE CLUTTER

1. REALIZE THAT YOU ARE UNIQUE

Unique is defined as being the only one of its kind and unlike anything else. Just let that sink in. There has never been nor will there ever be another you. Your DNA is similar to your family but you are the only person that can execute being you.

Truthfully building a brand or finding your tribe is predicated on simply being you! An audience will know what they have been looking for when they find it. It may be hard to hear but not being your unique self could be costing you what you’re trying so hard to build.

2. EMBRACE THAT FACT THAT YOU ARE NEEDED

Never have I heard the word “essential” more than I have since 2020 arrived. Honestly, the word “essential” invaded my dreams at one point. Lol. Needed is defined as required because it is essential or very necessary. You are very necessary! The skills and talents you have are essential. The skills and abilities you haven’t even identified yet are essential.

If you’ve studied anatomy you know how miraculous it is for life to be created and brought into the world. You are literally a miracle!

3. KNOW THAT YOU ARE VALUED

Sometimes you just need to be reminded that you are valued. I believe your friends and family value you. Hopefully, your coworkers and supervisors value you. But more importantly, God values you. You are His prized possession. Fearfully and wonderfully made, in His image and likeness. He empowered and formed you perfectly for His plans and purpose for your life.

So while you’re trying so hard to fit in, waiting for your time and your moment to shine and for things to perfectly align. You’re robbing your tribe, country, and quite possibly the nation of the asset of you.

Sincerely,

J.E.
